Zi Ran (or spontaneous) Qigong is an ancient Chinese secret and
dates back 7000 years to the Fu Xi Clan who once ruled the
Shandong Province. This type of Qigong is a secret art because the
Chinese (Zhonguoren) do not believe that Westerners can do it.
Westerners usually practice the Buddhist form (Shaolin Qigong)
which is a much more recent type (2000 - 4000 years) and consists
of exercises involving the mind only.
The School was founded by John Freear in 1989 here on Waiheke
Island through the encouragement of Chinese friends. In 1993, John
moved to Sydney where he developed a large school, while Elisabeth
Rusch, who learned Shuichuan from the time the School was founded,
took over the New Zealand School. During the years to follow John
developed a technique by which the transmission of Energy (Chu
Xing) could be given to students from the teacher via e-mail
contact. This resulted in the Internet Correspondence School. This
remarkable advance of combining ancient with modern makes
Shuichuan available to students throughout the world.
The Sydney School closed with John’s death, but the Internet
School and New Zealand School continues. Elisabeth Rusch has been
teaching since 1993 and is strongly committed to passing on the
benefits of her knowledge, experience and healing ability. She has
a gentle, supportive and encouraging approach.
Internet School Course
The Internet course is an ideal learning method as it is conducted
on a one-to-one basis and can be adapted to deal with the
individual needs of the student. The course takes about 3 months,
though membership lasts for a year to allow for more flexibility
so students can work at their own pace. The course costs NZ $250.
Classes in New Zealand
Weekly classes are held in Auckland and on Waiheke Island but
weekend courses are available throughout New Zealand, subject to
demand. Once Chu Xing has been given (energy transmission from the
teacher to the student), Zi Fa Gong (movement meditation) is
practised. This is followed by exercises, energy games, Da Zuo
(sitting meditation) and healing. Classes average about 90
minutes.
Private Shuichuan Qigong
Private sessions are also available. Those are recommended for
clients with illnesses or strong imbalances, as their personal
needs can be addressed in more depth than in class.
Wai Qi Healing Treatments
Wai Qi means external Qigong and is a type of massage which works
on the internal and external energy field of the body. It is a
gentle, but powerful, non-intrusive healing treatment which
balances energy and gives a feeling of well-being. It promotes the
patient’s body, mind, emotions and spirit to heal itself.
Treatment sessions take about an hour.
