What is Qigong?

We live in a field of Qi or life energy, but like a fish in water or a bird in flight, we are unaware of the medium that supports us.  Qigong means "working with Qi".  It is the ancient Chinese art and natural science of becoming aware of this life energy, of learning how to flow with it and use it.  Qigong is both a Spiritual practice and a practical skill for use in everyday life.

With Shuichuan Zi Ran Qigong, your connection to the Da Qi enables you to acquire knowledge from within, as and when you need it.  It imposes nothing, but gives you free choice and freedom of interpretation, and communicates in a manner which is tailor-made for you.  You will come to understand, not from exterior teachings, but from within yourself.

Qigong moves directly to awaken the original consciousness that exists within us all.  This is achieved through Chu Xing, the Awakening attunement, which comes from the exposure of the student to the Qi of the teacher.  From this Awakening arises an attitude of Spirit called Ch'an which by its nature is a mystery.

Neither Ch'an nor Qigong can be acquired intellectually for they are beyond the mind.  The Chinese will tell you, "If you have Ch'an then you can know it; if you do not have Ch'an then you cannot know it".  Lacking this we remain trapped by the educated mind.

How is Shuichuan different from other forms of Qigong?

The Zi Ran Qigong Exercise of Shuichuan is a spontaneous action caused by the Da Qi.  This Taoist form is totally natural as the movements of each individual's Exercise arise from their own Yuan Qi (Original Energy) through a direct connection to the Da Qi.

We all have this connection when we are born and as small children, but in most people it becomes hidden or is overshadowed by the mind during the education process and with the experiences of everyday life.  In Shuichuan, this connection is rekindled through Chu Xing.

Other styles more widely known in the West are based on a system of set exercises and developed much later than the ancient natural forms.  In Shuichuan, the Qi conforms to you, you do not conform to it.  This is the original idea behind Taoism to which Shuichuan returns.
